UIV Talents Cup 2011-2012

Swiss Team No. 1 in UIV Talents
Cup
96
riders from 13 nations participated in the 7 legs of this winters UIV
Talents Cup

This winters UIV Talents Cup for riders under 23
consisted of seven legs, starting in Amsterdam in October 2011 and ending in
Copenhagen in the start of February 2012.
The seven winners:
Amsterdam: Jasper de Buyst – Jochem de Weer (BEL)
Ghent: Simon Yates – Owain Doull (GBR)
Zürich: Jan Keller – Stefan Küng (SUI)
Rotterdam: Dylan van Baarle – Ivar Slik (NED)
Bremen: Lionel Wust – Dominik Stucki (SUI)
Berlin: Ivan Saitsky – Atur Ershov (RUS)
Copenhagen: Lionel Wust – Dominik Stucki (SUI)
There were no
official overall-competition in this year’s UIV Cup, but on an in-official
ranking, based on the same points-system as in previous year, the Swiss team
Wust – Stucki ended as No. 1 ahead of Danish team Casper Degn – Frederik
Schwartz. Both the Swiss and the Danish team participated in four of the
seven legs and Wust – Stucki won in Bremen and Copenhagen.
With a total of 96 riders from 13 nations the
participation in this year’s UIV Talents Cup might have been a little less
than in previous years – perhaps because of the World Cup’s and Olympic
qualifications. Within the UIV must be discussed what shall be the future of
this competition.

Double Victory for Stucki-Wüst

The final of the UIV Talents Cup proved a dramatic
one. Danish boys Degn-Schwartz started strong by winning the first two
sprints and fighting off attacks. Krigbaum-Poulsen and Folsach-Møller
Nielsen both tried to get the decisive lap to win the race but to no
prevail. The Swiss Stucki-Wüst rode very intelligently and when it came to
the end they were simply too strong and claimed a double victory winning
both the Copenhagen UIV Cup and the Overall UIV Cup. In the final sprint
Degn-Schwartz still had a chance to win but Stucki-Wüst were strong and
attacked with ten laps to go and held the lead, winning the final sprint.

The Fight Is Not Over

Today’s stage of the UIV Talents Cup was quite
intense. The Swiss team Stucki-Wüst fought hard to take the lead away from
Danes Degn-Schwartz. The roles were turned completely around today as it was
now the Danes who had to close gaps in order to defend their lead. The Swiss
minimized the Danish advantage by 6 points so that before the final day only
four points separate them. The stage was won by Folsach-Møller Nielsen who
managed to win two laps and are now also on equal laps with the race
leaders.

Decisive Stage?

Today’s stage of the UIV Talents Cup seems to have
been a decisive one. Local boys, Degn-Schwartz won the stage but more
importantly won 10 points on Swiss rivals Stucki-Wüst. The race was filled
with attacks from several teams but in the end no one managed to win the lap
and the stage was decided on points. Swiss team Stucki-Wüst fought a tough
battle to keep their lead but in the end, exhausted, they had to accept
defeat.

Danes Win the Stage - Swiss Claim the Lead

On today’s stage of the UIV Talents Cup, one team
managed to win a lap. Folsach-Møller Nielsen showed great determination and
spirit and won the lap which meant that they could ride defensively for the
rest of the stage. In the GC, top teams Stucki-Wüst and Degn-Schwartz were
watching each other like hawks. The teams were more or less even in the
regular sprints and both showed great flair but in the end the Swiss proved
the strongest, claiming the overall lead by 1 point.

The Swiss Fight Back

On today’s stage of the UIV Talents Cup in
Copenhagen Swiss team Stucki-Wüst fought back. Yesterday local boys Degn-Schwartz
claimed the lead but today the Swiss had changed their style a bit and,
naturally, left it for the Danes to control the race. The stage result was
never really in any doubt as the Swiss showed great strength in the sprints
and quickly claimed a comfortable lead. The GC however was getting closer
within the grasp of the Swiss riders but in the end the Danes defended their
lead. A superior stage win for the Swiss however showed that this race is
far from over.
Mathias Møller Nielsen was sick the entire day and therefore Casper Folsach
rode the day alone.

Russian team towards the
Victory
The
pattern in this leg of the UIV Talents Cup has been very "traditional".
Already on the first stage one two teams manages to take a lap from the rest
– and then control the race until the very end. The last stage today,
Sunday, will show if this also will be the case in Berlin.
It looks very much like it. In every case the strong Russian team Savitsky –
Ershov demonstrated their strength by winning the 3rd stage
Saturday evening. When you look at the overall of the Elite 6-Days in
Berlin, you might wonder, if the Russians should perhaps have placed the two
Russian teams, participating in Berlin Elite/U 23, opposite…

the final stage of the UIV Talents Cup in Zurich didn’t bring any changes
between the top-teams. Jan Keller (20) and Stefan Küng (19) preserved their

position. Two more teams are on zero before the final stage.

UIV Talents Cup "Memorial Noël Foré" in Ghent 22nd
to 27th November 2011
British Victory!

No surprises during the final stage of the UIV
Talents Cup "Memorial Noël Foré" in Ghent Kuipe Sunday afternoon. The
British team Yates – Doull who has dominated the race since the very start
could even extend the gap to the next teams to two laps during the final
Madison. And the job for the British boys became also a bit easier, as the
Dutch team Van Zijl – Caspers was reduced to one man, as Didier Caspers
couldn’t continue the race after his fall on Saturday. Second place overall
for the French team Boudat – Pijouret, with the highest points score, but
two laps dovn. Third place to Dutchmen Harmsen – Bond.

The fight is
still not over
The British team Yates –
Doull has dominated the UIV Talents Cup in Ghent so far, but the fight is
still not over. Before the final stage this afternoon the British team still
has a one lap-lead, but two of the three teams just one lap behind them have
a higher amount of points. A crash during Saturday evenings Madison made it
necessary to neutralize the race for a while. As the first team in the race,
the Frenchmen Boudat – Pijouret won a bonuslap, due to passing 100 points.

Yates – Doull
extends the lead
The British team Yates –
Doull came a clear step closer to the final victory in UIV Talents Cup in
Ghent on Friday evening, when they managed to lap the rest of the field in
the second part of the Madison. But they had to attack three times before
they definitively got the gap and won the lap. But things can still be
changed with the Dutch team Van Zijl – Caspers only one lap down and with
more points to their credit.

British team back
in the lead

The Belgium-German combination Van Immerseel –
Stahr won the third stage of the UIV Talents Cup in Ghent and the British
boys Yates – Doull returned to first place in the overall. That was the
result of a joint effort from those two teams, winning a lap together. Yates
– Doull made the attack and Van Immerseel – Stahr followed up. Van Immerseel
– Stahr advanced to 4th place overall, while the British and the
Dutch team in fact shares the 1st place, equal with 48 points.

Only one lap was won but
some lost during the second day of the UIV Talents Cup in Ghent. After the
third of five sprints in the Madison the Dutch team Van Zijl – Caspers
attacked and managed to take a solo lap, bringing them on top of the
overall. Also in the TT Van Zijl – Caspers was the strongest team recording
9,31 Sec.
Fortunately the Belgium rider Robin
Venneman was able to come back in the race after his crash during the first
stage.

As it is the tradition in
Ghent, the organizer offers the UIV Talents Cup riders a program over six
days, and the race started yesterday evening. In the first Madison six teams
ended up in the same lap and the British team Yates – Doull, everywhere
present, became the first leaders with the highest amount of points.
Belgium rider Robin Vennemann had a crash in the
Madison and had to be brought to hospital. If he can continue the race is

UIV Talents Cup in Amsterdam, 20th to
22nd October 2011
Belgian Victory
after hard fight with the Russians!

The Belgian team Jasper de Buyst – Jochem de Weer
looked more and less as a certain winner-team before the final in the UIV
Talents Cup in Amsterdam, but in the end they were hard challenged by the
strong fighting Russian team Baranov – Yatsevich (coached by our old friend
Marat Ganeev, himself and excellent 6-Days rider some decades ago). In the
first Madison on Saturday the Russians managed to get even with the two
leading teams, and in the final chase of 20 Minutes they tried again several
times. But in the end they had to be content by taking 2nd place
from the Swiss boys Stucki – Wust.
The Belgian winners made a fine impression, to the like of sportdirector
Patrick Sercu: - We so much needs new Madison-riders in Belgium, and it
looks like we have two very good candidates here, was his reaction after the
race.

Belgian team
on the way to victory

No big changes in the UIV Talent Cup during the 2nd
stage in Amsterdam. The Belgian and the Swiss team hold on in the top of the
overall, still one lap ahead of the next teams. It looks good for De Buyst –
De Weer with a solid points-gap to Stucki – Wust. The Belgian boys were also
the fastest in the 200 Meter TT with 11,047 Sec..
