The UIV Talents Cup was created in 2003 by the Union Internationale des Vélodromes (UIV), since 1956 the organisation for professional track-organisers.
The idea was to create a kind of "Madison-school" for young riders (first Under 23, today up to 25). As the members of UIV are mostly the 6-Days organisers, it was a natural goal to develop new riders and teams for the 6-Days. When you look at the names on the palmares below and compare with the names you find in today’s 6-Days, you will see, that the goal has already to a certain degree been achieved. Besides that the UIV Talents Cup has been a magnific opportunity for young riders from all over the world to learn the discipline Madison and to develop their skills as track-riders. In fact the UCI-Calendar does not offer very many possibilities for that kind of riders.
This year’s UIV Talents Cup was the 5th in a row
since the start in 2003/2004. The winners came from the Netherlands,
Geert-Jan Jonkmann and Roy Pieters, winning ahead of the British team Peter
Kennaugh – Jonathan Bellis and the Danes Jesper Mørkøv – Christian Ranneries.
A total of nine legs was ridden this winter in Amsterdam, Dortmund, Munich,
Ghent, Zurich, Rotterdam, Stuttgart, Berlin and Copenhagen. Accordingly to
the regulations the final overall was made up bye the four best results from
each team.

It looks like it might have been an exciting final in the UIV Talents Cup in Rotterdam. Yesterdays winners Kip – Moser managed to preserve their lead but they were hard pressed by the Swiss team Bally – Perizzolo, winning the last stage with a clear lap and then on level with the leaders. Thus the points decided and Kip – Moser won with 7 points ahead of the Swiss. Ligthart – Vermeulen and Kennaugh – Swift, dominating the first two days, ended 3rd and 4th respectively.

After two days of racing they are on the top of the overall – with not less than eight of the (only) 10 teams in the same lap. On the starting-list were 13 teams? What happens to the rest? And in many teams we see changes in the originally foreseen teams. We have a slight impression, that some riders and some coaches are not taking the UIV Cup and there start-obligations very seriously – a matter to be considered when the conditions for participating in next years Cup shall be settled…

Ready for a new Round of the UIV Talents Cup
With the 6-Days of Amsterdam starts also a new round of the UIV Talents Cup
Under 25. It will be the fifth edition of the Cup and again this year we have
introduced some minor changes.
Please note that their will be from this year a maximum gear of 52 x 16 or 49
x 15.
You can reed the full regulations here.
Also this year the interest for the UIV Talents Cup has been tremendous, and that means that we have not been able to fulfil all the wishes and requests from riders, coaches etc. We ask for your understanding for what in fact could be called a "luxury problem".
A little bit of history: The UIV Talents Cup was introduced in 2003/2004 and won by the Belgium team Iljo Keisse – Dmitri De Fauw. The main goal of the Cup was to create new riders and new stars for the 6-Days and Iljo Keisse is a very good example in this regard, but a lot of other young talented riders have together with him found their way into the 6-Days by the UIV Cup.
