UIV Cup now Under 25

With the 6-Days of Amsterdam starts the new UIV Cup series

Nicky Cocquyt, Erik Mohs (left) and Davy Tuytens were on top of the classification in 2006.

Already at their meeting in Hasselt at the end of the 6-Days season, the members of UIV decided that the UIV Cup should continue also in 2006/2007.
  - It was an easy decision to take, says UIV-president Henrik Elmgreen. For everybody it is obviously that this Cup, which now runs for the fourth winter consecutive, has been a great contribution to track cycling, and especially for the riders Under 23. Not so many organisers arrange races for this category.
But from the coming winter riders Under 25 will be able to participate.
  - We have realised, that we still have a group of riders "in-between" who might not yet be ready for the elite/pro 6-Days. For them we give a second chance in the UIV Cup, says Patrick Sercu, member of the working group.
Henk van Veen will also this winter be the UIV co-ordinator for the UIV Cup, and invitations are already send out to federations, coaches and organisers.
Below you can se the UIV Cup Calendar for 2006/2007, which again follows the pattern of the elite 6-Days, but not always with the exact same number of competition days.
In 2005/2006 the UIV Cup was run with an individual classification, but this winter we are back to the team-classification, states Elmgreen.
  - After all the idea of the Cup is to create new teams for the 6-Days
