UIV Talents Cup 2005-2006

UIV Talents Cup in
Copenhagen (2.2.-7.2.2006)
Kluge-Mohs Could
Not Be Touched
UIV Talents Cup Copenhagen Final Day
The race was ridden at an average speed of 50,250 km/h and several teams tried
to take a lap. Only one team succeeded however and that was the Australian team
Christopher Young – Philip Stokes which meant that they moved up on equal laps
with the leading teams. Ingmar De Poortere – Daniel Kreutzfeldt tried several
times to get away, just like Belgians Cocquyt-Tuytens but Kluge-Mohs controlled
the peloton completely. Czechs Subrt-Haceky and Danes Kristiansen-Rydicher were
very close before the final day where only six points separated them. The Danes
had a very good race and were incredibly strong in the sprints winning four of
the eight sprints which meant that they beat the Czechs and moved up from fourth
to third place.
Kluge-Mohs were however not to be moved from their leading position and won the
the UIV Talents Cup Copenhagen. That did not change the overall UIV Cup Ranking
as Nicky Cocquyt won the individual classification. Erik Mohs’s result in
Copenhagen moved him up to second place and thereby Davy Tuytens moved down to
third place.
(UIV Cup Ranking will be updated with the complete result as soon as possible).

Copenhagen (2.2.-7.2.2006)
Strong Display From
Kluge-Mohs
UIV Talents Cup Copenhagen 5th
day
Before today’s madison the U23 riders did a 1.000m time trial. The fastest team
was the Germans Roger Kluge – Erik Mohs in the time 59,103 seconds, the only
team that rode the 1.000m in less than a minute. Second fastest were the UIV
Talents Cup Ranking leaders, Belgians Cocquyt-Tuytens, in the time 1.00,340 and
third were De Portere-Kreutzfeldt in the time 1.01,005.
In the madison De Portere-Kreutzfeldt launched several attacks from the start
but they were not allowed to take a lap. Before the first sprint De
Portere-Kreutzfeldt launched a "tactical attack" and as soon as they had
obtained the points from the sprint they led themselves fall back into the
peloton. Several teams, including Subrt-Haceky, De Portere-Kreutzfeldt and
Cocquyt-Tuytens, kept on trying to get away but Germans Kluge-Mohs controlled
the peloton and nobody could get away. Kluge-Mohs won three of the six sprints
and were second in two of the other three sprints. Belgians Cocquyt-Tuytens
would however not give up so easily and had several attempts to get away but
they were also "held" by the Germans who had a very good race.
After seeing the race one could be tempted to say that Erik Mohs was the
strongest rider on the track and his partner Roger Kluge was indeed very strong
as well. The result was that Kluge-Mohs won the madison and thereby increased
their lead in the overall. Second in the madison were Cocquyt-Tuytens and De
Portere-Kreutzfeldt were third. No teams managed to win a lap so the madison
ended with all teams on equal laps except for four teams which lost between one
and five laps.

UIV Talents Cup Copenhagen 4th
day
In the very beginning of the race a couple of teams tried to get away, including
the strong Czech team, Subrt-Haceky. They tried for a long time but with the
peloton riding at an average speed of 51 km/h they could not get around and had
to give up. Wonsyld-Dalsted had a mishap and thereby lost a lap due to the high
speed.
Several teams tried to take a lap but Belgians Cocquyt-Tuytens controlled the
peloton and would not let anybody get away. Kluge-Mohs and Subrt-Haceky
especially tried but again the Belgians were on them. The Belgians’ controlling
way of riding however ended up costing a lot of energy and in the sprints they
struggled. Kluge-Mohs, with Mohs especially, however struggled in no way in the
sprints and the Germans won four of the six sprints. And not only did they win
today’s madison they also took the overall lead in the race.
Today's fighter prize was given to Jannik V.D. Nielsen - Philip Nielsen.

UIV Talents Cup in
Copenhagen (2.2.-7.2.2006)
Impressive riding
by Cocquyt-Tuytens
UIV Cup Copenhagen 3rd day
The day started with an early attack from team no. 13, Jørgensen-Jørgensen, but
after a long fight they were caught by the peloton. Cocquyt-Tuytens tried a
couple of times in the beginning but the remaining teams stayed on them and they
were not allowed to take a lap. The first sprint was won by Germans Kluge-Mohs
in front of Young-Stokes which brought the Germans into the lead.
After the first 30 minutes of riding the average speed was 49 km/h and no teams
were able to take a lap yet.
Five teams, including Cocquyt-Tuytens and Kluge-Mohs, tried for a while to take
a lap but three teams went after them. After a long fight Cocquyt-Tuytens took
charge of the group and were a major force in catching up with Nielsen-Nielsen,
who thereby lost a lap, and then caught up with the following group which meant
that Cocquyt-Tuytens, Kluge-Mohs, Kristiansen-Rydicher, Subrt-Haceky and
Christensen-Jørgensen took a lap. That turned out to be the only lap won in the
race.
For the most part of the race it looked as if Cocquyt-Tuytens and Kluge-Mohs
were the strongest teams on the track but after some tough fights in the sprints
Cocquyt-Tuytens beat Kluge-Mohs and won the madison.
The madison ended with an average speed of 51 km/h.
Mørkøv-Damm were rewarded with the "fighter prize" of the evening.
"Yesterday was a bad day but today was much better" Cocquyt says after the
race. "We’ve been fighting Mohs from the German team all winter and again
today he and his partner were strong. The Czech team was also strong – both
today and yesterday but we were the fastest today and won," he also added.
Finally Cocquyt said that "even though we won today there is still a long way
to go and several teams in the peloton are very strong."

Victory For
Arends-Mohs
UIV Talents Cup Berlin Final Day
A tough final saw great tactical wit by the Leipzig boys, Michael Arends – Erik
Mohs. Their closest opponents, Germans Kluge-König, tried to get away but
Arends-Mohs were on them at all time. The Belgians, Tuytens-Cocquyt, and the
Dutchmen, Jonkmann-Sluimer, took a couple of laps but they could not reach
Arends-Mohs in the overall, who only focused on Kluge-König and that gave them
the overall victory. The madison however, was won by Tuytens-Cocquyt in front of
Jonkmann-Sluimer with Arends-Mohs third. The win for Tuytens-Cocquyt brought
them up to second place in the overall and Jonkmann-Sluimer moved up to third
place. Yesterday’s seconds, Kluge-König, went all the way down to fifth place.

UIV Talents Cup in Ghent
As expected no big changes in the overall on the last stage of the UIV Cup in Ghent. Cocquyt - Tuytens had everything under control and they won the race with one clear lap and even a higher amount of points than no. 2, Germans Arends - Mohs. By this victory Nicky Cocquyt enlarged his leading position in the individual overall of the UIV Cup 2005/2006. Both the young Belgians hope in a couple of years to be among the pros in the 6-Days, just like their countrymen Keisse, De Fauw, De Ketele and Schets, all coming from the UIV Cup.

Recently the Belgians took 3rd place in the Elite World Cup in Moscow.

UIV Cup in Amsterdam

Michael Mørkøv – Marc Hester did win the 1st leg of this winters UIV Cup in Amsterdam, but they had to fight very hard for it on the final stage Saturday. All the other strong teams attacked one after another, in order to gain the lap, which could wrest the overall victory from the Danes. Most serious attack came from the British team Stannard – Swift. At the end of the race, they missed the lap-win with just 30 Meters!
Michael Mørkøv will ride his first pro 6-Days in Grenoble (27.10.-01.11.) and together Mørkøv – Hester are going to ride with the pro’s in Berlin in January.

UIV Cup in Amsterdam
Last winters overall winners of the UIV Talents Cup, Michael Mørkøv and Marc Hester from Denmark, started the new UIV Cup-season with another victory. They were far the strongest team in the competition and won all three sprints in the Madison. But it might perhaps be their only participation together in this UIV Cup-series, because they are already partly engaged in the pro 6-Days and in the World Cup with their national team. After the race, the team got gratulations from sportdirector Patrick Sercu - and Michael Mørkøv af warning for dangerous behavior in the final sprint (see below).
An overwhelming interest for this winters UIV Cup: More that 35 teams from 11 nations has asked for participation. 12 of them are riding in Amsterdam.

Great interest from riders and nations for this years UIV Cup
It all started very well in 2003/2004. In 2004/2005 the
interest for the UIV Madison Cup for riders Under 23 increased, and now the
UIV-coordinator Henk van Veen informs us, that so many riders and nations
has entered for 2005/2006 that is has been necessary to restrict and limit
the participation.
- It is absolutely impossible to accomplish all teams, but we have tried to
create a fair system, given as much as possible the same chance to all
nations, due to the fact, that only the four best results counts in the
general overall of the competition, Henk van Veen explains us.
11 nations (AUS, AUT, BEL, CZE, DEN, FRA, GBR, GER, ITA, NED and SUI) with about 24 different teams has applied for participation. For the first leg in Amsterdam (3-Days from 20th to 22nd of October) the following 12 teams has been selected:
1 Geert-Jan Jonkman – Kevin Sluimer (NED)
2 Michael Mørkøv – Marc Hester (DEN)
3 Marek Mixa – Pavel Subrt (CZE)
4 Ian Stannard – Ben Swift (GBR)
5 Michael Arends – Erik Mohs (GER)
6 Patrick Kos – Michel Kreder (NED)
7 Nicky Cocquyt – Davy Tuytens (BEL)
8 Andrea Pinos – Gianpaolo Biolo (ITA)
9 Niels Pieters – Tim van der Zanden (NED)
10 Bas Eckmann – Ismael Kip (NED)
11 Leander Pronk – Mike Terpstra (NED)
12 Dennis Kreder – Douwe Schouten (NED)
