6-Days of Copenhagen, 2nd to 7th of February 2012
Bartko-Lampater Claim the Lead

/Reinhardt

In today’s race it was clear that the strongest teams were Rasmussen-Mørkøv, Keisse-Hester, Bartko-Lampater and Stam-Stroetinga. Already in the team elimination race, local heroes Rasmussen-Mørkøv won in fashionable style ahead of Stam-Stroetinga and Keisse-Hester respectively. In the first madison of the night over 30 minutes, Barth-Blaha who really impressed yesterday, continued their strong style and won ahead of De Ketele-Mertens. Bartko-Lampater came in third one lap behind. In the 250m (1 lap) TT Grasmann-Norman Hansen set the best time with the Danish wonderkid riding in 13.001 which is the fastest time so far in the race. In the final 60 minute madison there was war between Rasmussen-Mørkøv and Keisse-Hester. Both teams did everything in their power to get the upper hand on the other team. First Rasmussen-Mørkøv attacked with Keisse-Hester setting in counter attacks and then the other way around. While all of this was going on experienced riders Bartko and Lampater made the most of the situation. Through intelligent riding, in the end, they managed to get that final lap together with Marvulli-Mørkøv which was needed to win the madison and claim the GC lead with Robert Bartko beating Jesper Mørkøv in the final sprint. Bartko-Lampater end today with a one lap advantage but with both Rasmussen-Mørkøv and Keisse-Hester close to claiming a bonus lap, the top teams will most likely be square again quite early tomorrow.

Overall after 2nd day:
1 Robert Bartko – Leif Lampater (GER), 68 p., at 1 lap: 2 Alex Rasmussen – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 82 p., 3 Iljo Keisse (BEL) – Marc Hester (DEN), 81 p., 4 Danny Stam – Wim Stroetinga (NED), 69 p., 5 Marcel Barth (GER) – Martin Blaha (CZE), 63 p., 6 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 57 p., 7 Kenny De Ketele – Tim Mertens (BEL), 31 p., at 3 laps: 8 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 28 p., at 4 laps: 9 Andreas Müller (AUT) – Sebastian Lander (DEN), 24 p., at 6 laps: 10 Alexander Aeschbach (SUI) – Christian Ranneries (DEN), 20 p., at 7 laps: 11 Leon van Bon (NED) – Michael Smith Larsen (DEN), 25 p., at 9 laps: 12 Christian Grasmann (GER) – Lasse Norman Hansen (DEN), 40 p., at 12 laps: 13 Shane Archbold (NZL) – Claudio Imhof (SUI), 20 p., at 15 laps: 14 Björn Schröder (GER) – Jack Simes IV (USA), 12 p.

6-Days of Copenhagen, 2nd to 7th of February 2012
Keisse-Hester Conquers the 100k

/Reinhardt

Finally the day arrived. Some feared it, others looked forward to it. A 100k Madison at the 50th edition of the Copenhagen 6-days. The last time a 100k Madison was ridden in Denmark was in 1989, where Danny Clark and Jens Veggerby won in the time 1.56,31. The Madison started off calmly but with a distance like that it is impossible to avoid drama. Before the final sprint Danish heroes Rasmussen-Mørkøv were up to points on rivals Keisse-Hester. The final sprint was so close that the finish judges were really put on a task to decide the winner. Keisse-Hester did just enough to claim victory in this legendary Madison and they did it in the time 1.55,19. That was even faster than expected and actually enough to beat the time of 1.55,30 set by cycling greats Eddy Merckx and Patrick Sercu in 1977!
In the 500m time trial Marvulli-Mørkøv were fastest in the time 28.475 ahead of De Ketele-Mertens in 28.750. In the 250m (1 lap) time trial local heroes Rasmussen-Mørkøv won in the time 13.148 ahead of Keisse-Hester in 13.188 and Grasmann-Norman Hansen in 13.240. That meant only 1 point separates the two top teams, Keisse-Hester and Rasmussen-Mørkøv.

Overall after 1st day:
1 Iljo Keisse (BEL) – Marc Hester (DEN), 37 p., 2 Alex Rasmussen – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 36 p., 3 Danny Stam – Wim Stroetinga (NED), 25 p., 4 Robert Bartko – Leif Lampater (GER), 22 p., at 1 lap: 5 Marcel Barth (GER) – Martin Blaha (CZE), 30 p., 6 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 26 p., 7 Kenny de Ketele – Tim Mertens (BEL), 6 p., at 2 lap: 8 Andreas Müller (AUT) – Sebastian Lander (DEN), 11 p., 9 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 10 p., at 3 laps: 10 Alexander Aeschbach (SUI) – Christian Ranneries (DEN), 7 p., at 4 laps: 11 Leon van Bon (NED) – Michael Smith Larsen (DEN), 9 p., at 5 laps: 12 Christian Grasmann (GER) – Lasse Norman Hansen (DEN), 15 p., at 8 laps: 13 Shane Archbold (NZL) – Claudio Imhof (SUI), 8 p., 14 Björn Schröder (GER) – Jack Simes IV (USA), 4 p.

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Howard and Meyer the Champions!

Podium in Berlin. Photo: Karl Franke.

After 2nd place last year the World Champions from Australia, Leigh Howard and Cameron Meyer, finally got their revenge by winning the 101st 6-Days of Berlin Tuesday evening. But they had to fight for it until the very end. Before the final Keisse – De Ketele and Lampater – Kluge looked like the favorites, but in the end they had to be contend with 3rd and 4th place. But as you can see from the result, it was a very close race between the top-teams. In the last 10 minutes Lampater – Kluge tried one last attack in order to get the lap, which would have changes everything, but in vain. In second place overall the Swiss team Marvulli – Dillier, a real break-through in the world of 6-Days for young Dillier.

Final result of the 6-Days in Berlin:
1 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 263 p., 2 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 254 p., 3 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 254 p., 4 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 239 p., at 1 lap: 5 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 234 p., at 11 laps: 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 77 p., at 12 laps: 7 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 116 p., at 13 laps: 8 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 49 p., at 14 laps: 9 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 111 p., at 16 laps: 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 132 p., at 17 laps: 11 Danny Stam (NED) - Martin Blaha (CZE), 57 p., at 21 laps: 12 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 55 p., at 22 laps: 13 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 56 p., at 23 laps: 14 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 43 p., at 32 laps: 15 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 19 p.

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Keisse – De Ketele or Lampater – Kluge…

Keisse – De Ketele and Lampater – Kluge the two best teams in Berlin? So it seems before tonight’s final in the velodrome in Landsberger Allé. Keisse – De Ketele won the 30 Min. Madison on Monday evening, with all five top-teams ending up in the same lap. In the 45 Min. Madison it was nearly the same, just Bengsch – Kalz lost a lap to the four other teams. The German Champions seems a bit handicapped by the crash of Kalz the other day. Lampater – Kluge won the Madison and together with the Belgium’s they are on zero before the final. But watch the points: One lap down in the overall but very close to a bonuslap the teams Marvulli – Dillier and Howard – Meyer.

Overall after 5th day:
1 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 213 p., 2 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 204 p., at 1 lap: 3 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 203 p., 4 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 195 p., 5 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 191 p., at 10 laps: 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 77 p., at 11 laps: 7 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 103 p., 8 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 45 p., at 13 laps: 9 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 98 p., at 14 laps: 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 107 p., at 16 laps: 11 Danny Stam (NED) - Martin Blaha (CZE), 57 p., at 19 laps: 12 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 53 p., at 20 laps: 13 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 48 p., 14 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 33 p., at 28 laps: 15 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 17 p.
Abandoned: Peter Schep (NED) and Jiri Hochmann (CZE), new team: Danny Stam (NED) – Martin Blaha (CZE).

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Five teams on Top

Marvulli - Dillier leaders in Berlin. Photo: Karl Franke.

After the Sunday family program in Berlin five teams are together on zero on top of the overall. Leading on points after four days are Franco Marvulli together with country-fellowman Silvan Dillier, who has been perfectly capable of playing the one part of a quality Swiss top-team in this 6-Days. The Swiss team won the 45 Min. Madison ahead of Howard – Meyer, and at that occasion the two teams also took the lap, which brought them on zero overall. The 30 Min. Madison went to Austrian team Graf – Müller.

Overall after 4th day:

1 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 169 p., 2 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 155 p., 3 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 151 p., 4 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 150 p., 5 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 148 p., at 6 laps: 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 70 p., at 8 laps: 7 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 41 p., at 9 laps: 8 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 84 p., at 10 laps: 9 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 70 p., at 11 laps: 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 88 p., at 12 laps: 11 Danny Stam (NED) - Martin Blaha (CZE), 47 p., at 15 laps: 12 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 40 p., 13 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 33 p., 14 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 29 p., at 22 laps: 16 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 14 p.

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Keisse – De Ketele with one point!

Keisse – De Ketele are still the leaders in Berlin, halfway in the race, but only with one point! They started the evening with a solid one lap-advantage, but already during the first Madison (30 Min.) the German Champions Bengsch – Kalz managed to get equal with the leaders. The two boys from Berlin won the chase, one lap ahead, and thus moved to 2nd place overall.
In the second Madison (45 Min.) the speed was very high and the fight between the top-teams intensive. It looked very much as a status quo until the German top-team Lampater – Kluge went away for a solo-lap – and managed to do so. This brought them on zero in the overall, and at the end of the day they were in 2nd position overall, just one point behind the Belgians.

Danny Stam, riding his last 6-Days in Berlin, got a new partner during the Saturday evening. The Czech rider Jiri Hochmann had to leave the race because of a nasal cavity inflammation, and a new team was established with Danny Stam and Martin Blaha.

Overall after 3rd day:
1 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 137 p., 2 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 136 p., 3 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 131 p., at 1 lap: 4 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 138 p., 5 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 123 p., at 5 laps: 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 51 p., at 8 laps: 7 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 17 p., at 9 laps: 8 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 65 p., at 10 laps: 9 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 53 p., at 11 laps: 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 45 p., at 12 laps: 11 Danny Stam (NED) - Martin Blaha (CZE), 16 p., at 13 laps: 12 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 27 p., 13 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 26 p., 14 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 20 p., at 18 laps: 16 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 9 p.
Abandoned: Peter Schep (NED) and Jiri Hochmann (CZE), new team: Danny Stam (NED) – Martin Blaha (CZE).

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Keisse – De Ketele with one lap!

Howard - Meyer. Photo: Karl Franke.

Already in the first Madison of the evening (30 Minutes) Keisse – De Ketele attacked and relegated all the other top-teams with one lap. Despite joined efforts from especially Kluge – Lampater and the Australian World Champions Howard – Meyer, the Belgian Champions of Europe managed to preserve their one-lap lead during the second Madison (45 Min.). Howard – Meyer won the Madison, but Keisse – De Ketele are the overall leaders after the 2nd evening in Berlin.
A fine performance so far from the German Champions Bengsch – Kalz, only one lap down and winners of the 1 Km TT on Saturday.

The crash of Peter Schep the first evening showed out to be fatal. Schep has broken his collarbone and is out of the race (and will also not be able to start in Copenhagen next week). A depressing finish for Schep after a very successful winter-season.

Overall after 2nd day:
1 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 86 p., at 1 lap: 2 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 93 p., 3 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 90 p., 4 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 86 p., 5 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 81 p., at 2 laps: 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 43 p., at 5 laps: 7 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 15 p., at 6 laps: 8 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 46 p., 9 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 20 p., at 7 laps: 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 30 p., 11 Martin Blaha – Jiri Hochmann (CZE), 7 p., at 9 laps: 12 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 19 p.,13 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 17 p., 14 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 9 p., at 10 laps: 15 Danny Stam (NED), 5 p., at 12 laps: 16 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 3 p.

6-Days of Berlin, 26th to 31st of January 2012
Start in Berlin: 6 teams in the same lap!

Lampater - Kluge. Photo: Karl Franke.

Already the opening Madison in Berlin 6-Days brought an intense fight between what might be the three top-teams in this race: Lampater – Kluge, the European Champions Keisse – De Ketele and the World Champions Howard – Meyer. At the end of the 45 Minutes all three teams were in the same lap, with the Belgians with the highest amount of points. In order to win the chase, the Germans had to win the last sprint. And that was what they were going for: Six laps before the finish Roger Kluge attacked and took the rivals by surprise and won the sprint.
In the second chase (30 Minutes) three more teams joined the leaders. Barth – Mohs won the chase ahead of Marvulli – Dillier and German Champions Bengsch – Kalz.

A bad evening for the Dutch team Stam – Schep and especially for Schep. In the 1 Km TT Schep crashed in the change with partner Stam. He tried to continue the race but had to be neutralized and brought to hospital for further examination.

Overall after 1st day:
1 Leif Lampater – Roger Kluge (GER), 47 p., 2 Iljo Keisse – Kenny de Ketele (BEL), 39 p., 3 Robert Bengsch – Marcel Kalz (GER), 39 p., 4 Franco Marvulli – Silvan Dillier (SUI), 38 p., 5 Leigh Howard – Cameron Meyer (AUS), 33 p., 6 Marcel Barth – Erik Mohs (GER), 30 p., at 2 laps: 7 Andreas Graf – Andreas Müller (AUT), 12 p., 8 Ralf Matzka – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 2 p., at 3 laps: 9 Henning Bommel (GER) – Tim Mertens (BEL), 22 p., 10 Rafal Ratajczyk (POL) – Alexander Aeschbach (SUI), 10 p., 11 Danny Stam – Peter Schep (NED), 5 p., 12 Martin Blaha – Jiri Hochmann (CZE), 2 p., at 4 laps: 13 Fabio Masotti – Angelo Ciccone (ITA), 9 p., 14 Björn Schröder – Tino Thömel (GER), 6 p., 15 Brad Huff – Jack Simes IV (USA), 0 p., at 6 laps: 16 Valeri Kaikow – Leonid Krasnow (RUS), 1 p.
